THE WHY

Every stone tells a story. For us at Great Lakes Stoneworks, that story begins in Northern Michigan, where rugged shorelines and timeless landscapes shape how we see the world. Founded by Ed Fantozzi, a seasoned leader in the stone and construction industry, our business was born from a simple conviction: building should be about more than materials. It should be about connection—between people, places, and the natural elements that ground us.

Over the years, Ed worked side-by-side with architects, builders, and homeowners across the region, guiding projects of every scale. What he saw was a gap: people wanted stone that carried authenticity, yet too often their choices were limited or compromised by cost and availability. Great Lakes Stoneworks grew out of that need—to bring the very best natural stone to the Great Lakes region and beyond.

Today, we source from over 14 quarries nationwide, curating materials that combine durability with unmatched beauty. Whether it’s the weathered strength of limestone, the unique textures of schist, or the timeless elegance of granite, our stone tells the story of the land it came from—and the vision you bring to it.

What sets us apart isn’t just access to extraordinary quarries; it’s how we work. We believe in listening first, offering solutions that balance aesthetics with practicality, and standing by our word. Our role is part supplier, part consultant—helping clients value-engineer their designs so they can achieve their goals without compromise.

This site is here as your resource. Explore our collections, review specifications, or simply gather inspiration. Along the way, you’ll find not just products, but a partner who shares your commitment to craftsmanship, integrity, and the kind of work that lasts.

At Great Lakes Stoneworks, we don’t just sell stone. We help you build something enduring—projects that feel as strong and timeless as the materials themselves.

COMMUNITY

Ed is deeply invested in the future of Northwest Michigan, not just as a business owner, but as a community leader committed to building opportunities for others. As a board member of The Home Builders Association of Northwest Michigan (HBANWM), he lends his experience and perspective to support a stronger, more resilient regional building industry. His work with the association reflects his belief that quality homes, skilled trades, and healthy communities all grow together.

On the field, Ed serves as a high school soccer coach in the Suttons Bay school district, where his role goes far beyond tactics and scorelines. For him, sports are a powerful classroom. He uses the game to teach discipline, resilience, teamwork, accountability, and respect, helping young adults understand what it means to lead by example. Ed’s focus is not just on developing better players, but on shaping young people who will one day become steady, thoughtful leaders in their own families, workplaces, and communities.

Within HBANWM, Ed contributes his time and energy on several key committees, including the Workforce Development & Education Committees, the Parade of Homes Committee, and the Foundation Events Committee. Through these roles, he supports programs that connect students, schools, and industry, helping to showcase real career paths in the skilled trades and highlight the value of craftsmanship in the built environment.

This commitment naturally extends into his involvement with The Northwest Michigan Skilled Trades Foundation. Ed is preparing to join the Foundation’s Board of Directors, a group of dedicated HBA members and community leaders working together to grow the next generation of skilled trades workers. By aligning his efforts in homebuilding, youth sports, and workforce development, Ed is focused on more than individual success. He is helping to build people, careers, and communities that will endure long into the future.
